Have you ever gotten stuck trying to help a user derive insight from a report that has three or more KPIs displayed at the same time?
Instead of using a tabular or pivot table layout, try using a bubble chart. A bubble chart allows three KPIs to be overlaid, so that the user can immediately intuit how the three measurements are interacting. Bubbles are positioned along an x and y-axis showing the relationship amongst the two KPIs, and the size of the bubble shows the relative “size” of the third KPI.
Our advice is to stick with relatively sized KPIs for the third metric, such as averages, percent comparisons, or percent to totals. This ensures that the size of one bubble will not overwhelm the size of the others.
